CURRICULUM

Developmental Guidelines & Instructional Program

Values and priorities identified by our school community are at the center of effective teaching at the Baldwin.

The core of student learning is guided by the needs of the individual child; curriculum is child-centered and follows an integrated, thematic approach.

Instruction is grounded in the Common Core/Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the recommendations from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and includes large group, small group and individual learning activities.

  • K0 is a year in which children explore and experiment with social relationships, language arts, math, science and social studies. This year is rich with experiences and lays the foundation for the development of skills in these areas.

  • K1 and K2 are years in which children continue to experiment and begin to receive developmentally appropriate instruction in reading, writing, math, science and social studies toward meeting Massachusetts Standards.

  • Grade 1 is a year in which children receive formal instruction and practice the skills required by the Standards in each academic area that students must meet in order to be promoted to 2nd grade.
